Authentic Austin Pig Roast

On Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, my friends Ian Buchanan and Ryan Reid roasted an 80-pound pig. It was their third time roasting a whole pig but their first using the caja china method, an aboveground roasting box. Ian and Ryan engineered a box out of cinder blocks, lined it with aluminum foil and capped the structure with an ⅛-inch steel sheet. Read more…

Snow Storm Slams Brooklyn

I went out with two colleagues to Brooklyn the morning of the snow storm and caught some residents from the Brownsville area playing in Lincoln Terrace Park. Kids were building snowmen and local residents were playing football. One of the photos was even picked up by The Huffington Post.

I will always hold a special place in my heart for Texas. I was born and raised in the Lone Star State so my ties to the land I grew up on and family are very important to me.


One of my first photo assignments for J-School was to photograph a person doing a process. I spent hours walking up and down the Upper West Side trying to find a subject when I literally stumbled upon Hani, a man who does sidewalk portraits of everyone from Barack Obama to Michael Jackson to Ted Kennedy.
